A 5 day programme which merges the almost undiscovered treasure trove of unspoilt beaches, incredible mountain ranges, rich geographical diversity, and the most astounding carpet of wild flowers in Spring which is the Cape West Coast with that of the picturesque Cape Winelands. Highlights of the tour include a Rooibos Safari near Clanwilliam, the charming little fisherman’s village of Paternoster, a San experience at Khwa Ttu! San Culture & Education Centre, and exploration of a selection of wine farms using the old-fashioned tram as your mode of transport.
Day 1 Cape Town / Clanwilliam / Langebaan
Morning departure from the Mother City, travelling northbound along the national highway. Drive past villages such as Citrusdal which is synonymous with its superior citrus fruits and products, and Clanwilliam, one of the ten oldest towns in South Africa and also renowned as being the only place where rooibos is planted and cultivated and famous for its locally made veldskoens or leather shoes. Here you would visit the Rooibos Factory, the only active production plant. After this fascinating visit, an opportunity would be made to enjoy lunch (to own account) before heading to Elandsberg Eco Tourism farm. Here you would embark on a Rooibos safari through the rooibos plantations and the processing plant. Continue to the coastal hamlet of Langebaanvia the coastal route. Overnight The Farmhouse Hotel (standard room) or similar.
Day 2 West Coast (Breakfast).
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before heading to Paternoster. Visit the Cape Columbine Light- house which was the last manned lighthouse constructed, and it rests on a windswept coastline within the Columbine Nature Reserve. The spiral staircase within the lighthouse takes one high enough for incredible views out over the Britannia reef and the Atlantic. Browse around the town of Paternoster, drinking in the nostalgic atmosphere of this old fishing village before heading to West Coast Fossil Park for a guided tour. Return to Langebaan for a relaxed afternoon at leisure. During the months of August and September a visit to the Postberg Section of theWest Coast National Park would be included to view the colourful carpet of flowers at this time. Day 3 Langebaan / Darling / Franschhoek (Breakfast).
After breakfast we make our way to the Khwa ttu San Culture & Education Centre which offers the unique experience of being introduced to the world of the descendants of the first indigenous people of southern Africa. The San themselves will take you on a journey into their history, traditional knowledge, skills, languages, customs and current affairs. Continue to Groote Post Cellar for a wine tasting before heading toBloubergstrand for lunch (to own account). Overnight Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa (standard room) or similar.
Day 4 Franschhoek (Breakfast, Dinner)
Breakfast is followed by a unique and leisurely way to see the Franschhoek Valley as you journey through rolling vineyards in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates. Lunch (to own account) could be taken at any of the estates included on the route. This evening includes dinner at the hotel before retiring for the night. Overnight Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa (standard room) or similar.
Day 5 Cape Winelands / Cape (Breakfast)
Breakfast and check-out of the hotel. Depart Franschhoek and travel over the Helshoogte Pass to Stellenboschfor wine tasting, a browse around town and lunch. Continue to Paarl wine region for another tasting and visit to Taal Monument. The tour ends at approximately 16h00 with drop-off at either Cape Town International Airport or your Cape Town based hotel.
